What is the Apostille?
The apostille is the legalization of the signature of a public official, in the exercise of his functions, whose signature must be registered in the database of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The signature of the public official imposed in the document is apostilled, however the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not assume responsibility for the content of the apostilled document.
A document must be apostilled when the country in which it will take effect is a member country of the Convention on the abolition of the legalization requirement for foreign public documents, signed in The Hague on October 5, 1961.
When is an apostille required?
When your document must have full legal effect in a country that is part of the 1961 Convention on the Abolition of the Legalization Requirement for Foreign Public Documents.
Apostilled documents that will take effect in Colombia
For a document issued by a “Country that is part of the Hague Convention” , is valid in the Colombian territory, must be apostilled by the competent Entity of the country of origin.
If the document to Apostille requires to be presented in a language other than Spanish, it must be translated by an official Colombian translator. Consult the Directory of Official Translators.
Once the document has been translated, the signature of the official translator must be apostilled at the Apostille Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or online.

Note that:
- Payment must be made the same day the payment reference is generated, otherwise you must generate a new reference with the date on which you will make the payment.
- When you go to carry out your procedure, check with the nearest Consulate the available payment methods.
- For payment at the GNB Sudameris bank, the unique payment reference (numerical code) must be taken into account and NO payment receipt must be generated or printed.
* Please note that the only cities authorized for payment at Banco Agrario are: Valledupar (Cesar), Sincelejo (Sucre), Riohacha (Guajira), San Andrés, Yopal (Casanare), Quibdó (Chocó), Mocoa (Putumayo), Arauca (Arauca), Leticia (Amazonas). For the above, the payment receipt must be generated and printed.
